USPRO Crit Weekend
Uncategorized August 22nd, 2006I guess it is time for another race weekend re-cap. This past weekend was the USPRO Criterium Championships in Downers Grove, Ill. Karl, Hendy, and I flew out of Denver on Friday morning. We met the rest of the team in Chicago and raced Saturday (pre-USPRO Crit Chapionship race). We raced again on Sunday before flying back later that evening.
We did almost manage to miss our flight on the way to Chicago Friday morning. For some reason, even though we got two emails with our itinerary, neither Karl, Hendy, or myself remembered our flight time but we figured if anything we must be late. I still did not want to pay massive amounts of money for parking even though we were running a bit behind schedule. Therefore, we parked in the economy lot where I almost ran out of gas trying to find an open space and had to catch a shuttle to the terminal. Needless to say after some running we did make it to our gate in time!
We had a brief layover in Springfield, MO and here is Hendy and Karl eating a little lunch. I had never been to Springfield and I never really care to go back.
After making it to Chicago here is Karl before talking to his girlfriend
…………a few minutes later this is Karl going “instantly gay” while talking to his girlfriend.
We ended up meeting Kyle, TJ, Alberto, Kirk, and Gord at the airport but had to wait for Deb to come and pick us up.
This past weekend was Gord “laser” Fraser’s last race. It has been awesome being the teamate of a “legend” this past season. Thanks Gord.
Kirk eating something before the race.
Havoc relaxing before the race.
Hollywood and Gordo.
TJ I think you are suppose to wait until you are actually on the toilet!
We stayed at the Marriot for the weekend and I slept on the pullout while Hendy got the bed. I did not realize we had a pullout in the room until the second night of my stay! Yes, a pullout bed is much nicer than the floor!
Mike “Nutter” Jones. I like Mike……we are both “nutters” and hanging around him at least makes me feel somewhat normal.
We ate dinner at some Italian joint and I think I am still belching garlic……..lovely!
At that same Italian joint I also ran into Megan and her teamate Leigh.
Last but not least here is Hendy’s facial expression after showing him my abs!
This past weekend was not the most sucessfull for the team but Karl did end up getting third on Saturday and Kyle who was in great position on Sunday going into the final turn unfortunately ended up crashing.
I also wanted to wish Hendy safe travels back to Australia and eventually back to New Zealand since he is leaving tomorrow.
later,g.

Garret,
It’s Blake from the UofA days. Congratulations on all your success. I live in Phoenix, AZ now. Best of luck to you and the road bike…but uh, don’t let your mountain bike collect the wrong kind of dust. My wife and I have a condo here in Scottsdale, so if you or Shane ever need a place to crash in P-town let me know. I’ll put a link to your blog on my website DirtyBicycle.com
Dramamine and Heineken pack an awesome buzz! Blake

it was nice seeing u and the Health Net train drilling it on Saturday night in the closing laps. Sucks that it did not end up with a “W”.

Looks like Jones is giving you a big garlicky smooch.

” I had never been to Springfield and I never really care to go back.” Are you just a sore looser since the USPRO champ is from Springfield, MO?

Hey Blake, it is nice to hear from you and it sounds like things are going well. I will definitely have to look you up when I make it to Tucson this winter for a bit of training. Thanks for putting my link up and I hope everthing is well.
Jeremy, thanks for coming out and watching the race. I saw your blog and you raced on Sunday. That is awesome.
Yeah, Jones is giving me a big smooch he does it quite often but I try to tell him not to do it in public !!
Sore looser Scotty, come on! That is the farthest thing from the truth and actually I don’t mind Springfield, MO at all. It was just the fact that we had to go through there to get to Chicago and did not have a direct flight. Shit, we could have gone through the Bahama’s and I still would not have liked it.

I’m glad I stumbled upon your blog. I just about piss myself everytime I read it. “Instantly Gay!” Classic.

Hey, G,
It was fun hanging out at the 50th birthday party with you at the Italian restaurant (you guys were across that massive party table from me and my team). I thought it was sweet that you gave, “sexy, sassy Sharon” that bong, I mean “birdfeeder” for her birthday. Don’t let Jones kiss you without protection, k?
See ya in Tucson prolly.

Hey Jones…….were you wearing protection when you gave me that kiss? I do have some sort of rash on the side of my face!

Garrett, I’d have been highly surprised if you had known Brad was from Springfield, thus the irony. Couldn’t pass up a chance to poke fun. I’ve been reading your blog long enough to know better than to think you’d be sore over a race. Did Menzies leave his gayness in the Airport? No worries if he did Hogan said he’d run right over & pick it up for him.

the airport in Springfield DOES suck. But the road riding is the only good thing in town.
