Thanksgiving Adventure
Uncategorized November 25th, 2007For some reason every year when Thanksgiving rolls around I do not get overly excited. It is a good holiday and all but I am stubborn and do not like the fact that on this day we are “suppose” to eat a lot of food and socialize with others!
Therefore, this year I took Thanksgiving into my own hands and went for a rather lovely solo trail run from home here in Boulder up to Nederland. The totals on the day were: 26.8 miles covered, 5 hours 15 minutes moving time, 7 hours 25 minutes total time, approximately 5000 feet of elevation gained, one stagnant pond drank out of, one number two bathroom stop in the woods (not sure if there was any correlation with the consumption of stangnant pond water?), one bus ride home from Nederland, two tired legs, and definitely one great way to spend Thanksgiving!
I departed the house at around 8:30 AM on a cold snowy morning.
The view of Boulder heading up the mountain.
Farther up the mountain on Gregory Canyon Trail.
There were not too many people out on the trails…especially as I got higher up the mountain. There were miles of wonderful snow angel making opportunities!
The view by Walker Ranch as the sun came out.
My artistic lone footprints shot in the snow.
Eventually, I made it to Barker Resevoir which was near my final destination of Nederland.
The plan was to make it to Nederland and then hitch hike down. However to my surprise the bus was running on Thanksgiving so for $2.75 I got a ride back to Boulder!
After getting off the bus I arrived to Thanksgiving at the house.
Thanks to Rory I was not a total grinch on Thanksgiving. He made the dinner and I supplied the place to have the dinner…worked out pretty good.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
later, g.

Thats rad. I love it. I hate holidays, i like to buy gifts and stuff but i hate days where people tell you that you should do it. But the run, thats rad, (remember the movie rad) I remember one time i went out for an 11 mile run when I hadnt ran in 2 years since marine corp bootcamp and I ran it non stop, walked a couple times, but did it pretty quick then went to the bar that night and was standing there and my legs gave out, so instead of going home and to bed, i just sat at the bar until my legs felt good again. Ok, ill miss you this next year. K bye

Hey Jones…your message actually made me a bit sad
You should start running again and do some epic trail runs with me. Great fun and no one bothers you in the woods…well unless of course I was with you.
K2 yeah there were a couple of bowls left at the house..so I must have it. You also left some Hershey Kisses but those seemed to have disappeared…not sure where they went.
Jon, I had to link up a bunch of different trails and run a bit on the road.

Garret…Kimberly and I are getting worried…very worried!!! Nice job man! you’re crazy. I have something you would love to do. Ride from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon to the North Rim and then hike rim to rim. 140 the first day, 85 all uphill the second day, and then the 25 mile hike-run…dude you would smoke it!!! Or the Vegas Challenge. Ride from Palm Springs to Vegas and then do the 1/2 or full marathon. 180 day 1, 85 day 2 and then day 3 the run all out dude!!! again you’d smoke it. I’ve done both and they are perfect for nutter’s

Wow Suzanne that is awesome! I already ran the Grand Canyon back in my UofA college days however, never did the bike and run…interesting.
I have been toying with the idea of riding my bike from Boulder to Santa Rosa for training camp in January…but in the winter it might be tough. Or mountain biking the Colorado trail (~500 miles) or trail running it during the summer. Or riding to the start of the Kokopelli trail in Fruita…riding the trail to Moab and then biking back to Boulder? Wow knows, usually the decisions are made last minute.
Off to go and drink my 13th Diet Dr. Pepper of the evening…I honestly cannot stop…is that normal?

Hahaha, Rad is possibly the most ridiculous movie ever made? Dancing on their bikes at the prom or whatever? Hell Track? Awesome.
