Killing Time

Ahhh, I am bored! Actually, more bummed that I am not napping my like two teammates across the room from me! Guess that serves me right for drinking that huge ass Starbucks coffee a little bit ago…

Anywho, Morgan Schmitt, my teammate who I have not seen since training camp this past February, made the trip up to Vancouver from his hometown of Seattle to race with Scotty and I this weekend!  He even has the privilege of shacking up with Scotty and I for a few days which I personally think he should pay for!

Here is a tour of our room…

The one thing that is hard to see in the pictures is the stink floating around the room! Too bad we cannot trade Morgan for a cute girl who smells of cotton candy and lilacs…or can we?

Anyway, before I go and get ready to race here is one more cool picture of Vancouver…

Crit tonight, road race tomorrow morning, and then home Monday.

2 Days Off

Yesterday, was the final stage of the “Tour of Delta” and Scotty and faired okay….5th and 7th in GC.  It was a fun race and the local team “Symmetrics” pretty much smashed everyone.  Now we have two days off before the “Gastown Crit” on Wednesday!

Anyway, here are some pictures of the city and from racing the past few days.

DSC00675.JPG Sailboats on Burrard Inlet….Vancouver sits on the shores of Burrard Inlet which empties into the Strait of Georgia with then empties into the Pacific.

DSC00683.JPG Another beach shot…today is frisbee on the beach day by the way!

_G5Y5375.jpg Here are a few pictures from the Ladner crit on Saturday.  Joe Sales…who we are staying with…is a photographer and takes awesome photos!

_G5Y5083.jpg Another one of Joe’s shots at the Ladner Crit.  Also if you notice I have started the growth of my winter beard a few weeks early plus it is appropriate here in Canada!  Wonder if I can make it w/o shaving till next summer???

Vancouver, Eh!

Made it to Vancouver, BC last night where my teammate Scotty and our host Joe picked me up at the airport.  It is my first trip to Vancouver and I must say…it is impressive!  The veiws from the airplane were amazing…

Needless to say I am looking forward to being here for the next eleven days…checking out the area and racing bike!  The other great thing is that the locals sort of talk like me…or at least that is what Scotty says!

Thanks to the Sales family for hosting us and it was also nice to meet a blog reader, Eric from White Rock, at the race today!  It is always great to meet people who read these ramblings!

Lastly, I wish BJM a speedy recovery after hearing about his crash at Cascade!

Postponed

The gallon challenge has been officially postponed due to sanitary reasons….mainly the stink!  Anyway, after cheating and using my jug during the day I ended up closing the gap on Teddy.  We then called it a tie and flushed all of our hard work down the crapper!

After and epic travel day on Monday…Boston to Atlanta to Denever and then finally Boulder…which took about 14 hours I finally made it home!  It is always great to come back home especially after spending the week in Fitchburg, MA which is an utter pit of a town!  Sorry if I offendend anyone but it is true…

My stay at home is relatively short lived however, since tomorrow I am leaving for Vancouver, BC where Scotty and I will be racing BC Superweek..8 days of racing in 10 days! It should be fun since I have never been there and also relaxed cause we are on our own!

Time to go and pack, g.

The Gallon Challenge

It is rather funny how competitive cyclists…or athletes in general are!  Take for example my Fitchburg roommate Teddy and I.  We are staying in the dorms at the Fitchburg State College where the bathrooms are located across the hall.  Being a community bathroom the floors are disgusting so instead of putting on shoes to piss at night an empty gallon water jug by my bedside has come in handy.  Needless to say it is catching on as 3rd place Fitchburg GC rider Teddy King has recently adopted the practice.

As a corollary to the Fitchburg stage race Teddy and I are having our own race “The Gallon Challenge.” The winner is the first to top off their jug.

DSC00667.JPG Currently, after stage two  Teddy (bottle on left) has taken a few ounces out of me (bottle on right).  However, it is a long race and I am confident in my abilities!

Wow, it has been difficult entertaining ourselves w/o tv the past few days!

Time to go race, g.
